Kansas’s Community Service Program (CSP)
Tax Credits
Help build our future with TAX CREDITS!
How the CSP Tax Credit Works
The easiest way to understand CSP is: You donate to First Call for Help. First Call for Help receives the full donation. Kansas then provides you with a state tax credit based on the approved CSP percentage.
For a qualifying project in Hays, the applicable CSP rate is generally 50%. The credit percentage is based on the location of the organization—not the donor's location.

What You Need to Do
1. Decide how much you would like to contribute. Choose an amount that works for you or your business.
2. Complete the First Call for Help CSP donor paperwork. This allows First Call for Help to properly document and process your contribution. You can find the paperwork HERE. Pledges are due by 1/31/2027.
3. Make your contribution during the eligible CSP period. A pledge is not the same as an eligible contribution; the actual contribution must comply with CSP requirements and eligible dates.
4. First Call for Help will handle CSP processing. The nonprofit collects the necessary donor information and submits it through the CSP program.
5. Receive your CSP tax-credit documentation. Keep the documentation with your tax records.
6. Claim the credit on your Kansas tax return. Kansas uses Schedule K-60 for the Community Service Contribution Credit.
What Makes CSP different from a normal donation?
A traditional charitable contribution may provide a tax deduction. A CSP contribution can provide a Kansas state tax credit, which directly reduces Kansas tax
owed.
Donation Examples

Businesses Can Participate Too: CSP can be particularly valuable for businesses with Kansas tax liability. Businesses should consult their tax professional regarding the appropriate treatment for their specific tax situation.

Why Your Support Matters - First Call for Help continues to connect local residents with resources that help address food insecurity, financial hardship, transportation challenges and other needs. Your CSP contribution is an investment in the infrastructure First Call for Help needs to continue serving our community.
-
If I wanted to pledge a bigger amount, can I split the payments and make smaller donations over a period of time? Yes, if First Call for Help receives CSP tax credits, you will have 18 months from the date they are awarded to fulfill your pledge, should you choose to do so. You may make your donation in installments or pay the full amount at once. The only risk of making installment payments is that First Call for Help could sell all of its available tax credits before your final contribution is made.

If I make a pledge, am I legally committed to it? No, if you change your mind or circumstances arise that prevent you from fulfilling all or part of your pledge, that is completely okay. Your pledge is not legally binding.
