First Call for Help's Programs:
Information & Referral:
Provides individuals who are in a crisis situation with a vast array of community resources to meet their needs. This outreach program collaborates with local social service agencies. People who are in need of services complete an intake form and are referred to the appropriate agency for assistance.
Emergency Assistance:
Vouchers for emergency assistance are issued to provided for such needs as rent, utilities, minor car repairs, etc.
Meals on Wheels:
In collaboration with Hays Medical Center, First Call for Help provides a healthy meal to elderly or homebound individuals on a daily basis. The meals are delivered directly to their door.
Backpacks for Kids:
Provides backpacks with school supplies and personal hygiene items to low-income Ellis County children each August. The backpacks are given away on a first-come, first-serve basis. To place your child's name on the list for next years distribution contact our office.
HEART (Hays Emergency Assistance Response Team):
HEART is a team of volunteers and staff members who respond to the emergency needs of travelers passing through Hays who are in a crisis situation. Assistance is provided to meet needs such as shelter, food, gas, transportation, minor car repair, ect. In order to receive assistance, individuals must go to the Hays Law Enforcement Center.
Education and Prevention:
Professional staff works with individuals and families on a long-term basis with the ultimate goal being, moving them from poverty to self-suffiency.
